The European Underground Laboratories Association has relaunched its website with a new structure, updated design and a growing range of resources for the underground research community. The renewed site will serve as a central platform for EUL news, events, member laboratories, publications and opportunities for collaboration.

The European Underground Laboratories Association (EUL) was represented at the DTU Offshore Summer School 2026 on Subsurface Storage, held on 8–11 September 2026 at the Technical University of Denmark, DTU Lyngby Campus.

The European Underground Laboratories Association (EUL) was represented at the 27th World Mining Congress (WMC 2026), held on 24–26 June 2026 in Lima, Peru. The congress brought together representatives of the mining industry, research organisations, technology providers and public institutions to discuss the future of mining, with a strong focus on innovation, digitalisation and safer, more efficient use of underground resources.

At the EGU General Assembly 2026 in Vienna, EUL Chair Jari Joutsenvaara presented lessons from the GoldenEye project and highlighted how Earth observation and proximity-sensing technologies can support mining throughout its lifecycle — from exploration and production to closure, monitoring and future reuse.

At Xplorer 2026 Oulu – Redesign Mining, EUL Chair Jari Joutsenvaara highlighted the importance of planning for the long-term value of mines beyond extraction and the role underground spaces can play in research, innovation and regional transition.
